If you want to exit your lease by assigning it to someone else, or if you are taking an assignment of a lease, you will need the landlord’s agreement.
To assign a lease, a Licence to Assign has to be agreed. This is a document where the landlord consents to the assignment of the lease. There will also need to be an agreement between the current tenant and the new tenant dealing with the terms of the assignment. If you are the new tenant you will want the lease to be checked to ensure that it is suitable for your needs and that you understand the obligations you are taking on.
